Letter from Mr Travers to TY Parents
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Many thanks for your attendance at last night’s TY meeting, really appreciate you taking the time to be there. Also many thanks for your opinions, observations and contributions on the night. It was a good robust discussion.
In light of the meeting and in the spirit of bringing everyone along together I would like to get some further feedback of where people are at. Please see survey link below. It will only take a couple of seconds to complete.
While we are very keen to move forward with the devices, we only want to do so with your support
Some of the rationale behind it –
- With the AACs for the Leaving Cert (additional assessment components) This is a 40% digital project that the lads will have to do in all their leaving certs subjects. The teachers have to directly oversee this work so again the device will facilitate this.
- This is an assessment device only (I can’t emphasise this enough) totally controlled by the school’s safety software. We are paying for this software separately at no cost to our parents
- Relieves the pressure on the computer rooms and Chromebook trollies and insures the lads don’t lose out on an already pressurised timeline to complete these projects
- Gives the lads time to acquire the skills necessary (which many don’t have) to navigate the intricacies of AACs
- It’s a game changer in TY in the context of the lads always having something to work on in class.
I also had a conversation with the TYs today to explain to them where we are coming from. Please have a chat with your son this evening to get the context of what we are trying to achieve. I totally appreciate the cost element and the time aspect. We would much prefer to give a year’s notice but we were trying to get the value of TY from this year’s device, hence the time pressure. I am very happy to take your lead on this (see survey below ) and delay introduction if that is what people want. The fact that we don’t have the cost of schoolbooks going forward will hopefully help. As I said last night you can spread out the cost of TY or leave the payment until next May.
If anyone is having difficulty financially, please contact Ms Corcoran (Deputy Principal) at amc@naascbs.ie and we will do everything we can work things out with you. No one will be left behind. Once we get the feedback I will come back to you with our decision re timeline etc.
