1A History

14 March 2025

Our 1A History class have been working on the topic The Renaissance. One of the sections involved looking at the detailed work of the Sistine Chapel painted by Michelangelo. Michelangelo spent 4 years, 12 hour days painting the ceiling and walls of the magnificent chapel. In order to do this he had to lay on his back, close to the roof and paint lying down.

The students of 1A recreated this process today by drawing some simple symbols. They really enjoyed themselves and created some interesting drawings. Many said how difficult it was to draw on their back with their arms raised which puts into perspective the hard work that was put into the chapel by Michelangelo during those long 12 hour days.
