Important Notice – Consumption of High Caffeine Energy Drinks on School Premises

7 November 2025

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We have taken the decision to ban high caffeine energy drinks in the school. ( Brand names include, but are not limited to Monster, Red Bull and Prime.) Medical evidence now suggests that the consumption of high caffeine energy drinks is detrimental to the health of young people. The Irish Heart Foundation is calling for a ‘mandatory ban’ on energy drinks for under – 18s in order to protect children’s health.

Please see an article from The Irish Independent here :  https://www.independent.ie/irish-news/health/call-for-ban-on-energy-drinks-in-ireland-after-two-men-suffered-cardiac-arrest-due-to-excessive-consumption/a1130218089.html

From a school perspective we have noticed  a significant increase in the consumption of energy drinks on the school premises, with some students arriving to school in the morning with multiple cans. We aim at all times to promote healthy habits in the school.

We have spoken at Assemblies this week in relation to this and we are appealing to parents to support the ban. Please speak to your son in relation to this. Please note that any high caffeine energy drink brought on to school premises will be confiscated.

Kind regards,

The Leadership Team
