On 17 April Minister Norma Foley TD, announced the arrangements which will apply in relation to the 2024 Leaving Certificate, confirming that for 2024 the overall results in the aggregate will be no lower on average than those in 2023. To achieve this, the SEC will again apply a post-marking adjustment after all marking in the Leaving Certificate examinations is complete.
This announcement has allowed the SEC to provide clarity about the date of issue of the results of the 2024 Leaving Certificate and Leaving Certificate Applied examinations which the SEC intends will issue to candidates on Friday 23 August. The results of 2024 Leaving Certificate examinations will issue to candidates through the Candidate Self Service Portal available at www.examinations.ie and on www.gov.ie/leavingcertificate and to school authorities through the SEC’s Schools Portal.
In relation to 2025, the Minister has signalled a gradual reduction in the level of post-marking adjustment to be applied from 2025 onwards. The announcement also confirmed the continuance of the adjustments to the examination papers and other assessment components, which have applied since 2023, for the 2025 examinations. These will be updated in certain subjects to take account of annual changes (e.g. prescribed material, etc). Since the date of the announcement, we are in receipt of enquiries about the precise nature of these adjustments. Details of the adjustments to the examination papers and the other assessment components for every subject/module descriptor in the Leaving Certificate, Leaving Certificate Applied and Junior Cycle will issue in due course. In the meantime, school authorities should refer to the publications Assessment Arrangements For Junior Cycle and Leaving Certificate Examinations 2024 here and the Leaving Certificate Applied 2023-2024 summary advice note here as a guide to the changes which will apply in 2025.
