Senior Irish Debating team
Well done to the Senior Irish Debating team who took part in the Comórtas Uí Phiarsaigh debating competition run by Gael Linn. Before Christmas, the team competed in two rounds online. The motions they debated were “Ní thuigeann muintir na hÉireann fadhb na hathrú aeráide” – The people of Ireland don’t understand the climate problem and “Is cur amú ama í an t-idirbhliain” – Transition year is a waste of time. They were successful in these rounds and progressed to the final 32 schools.
Before Easter, they debated in King’s Hospital against Holy Family, Rathcoole and Coláiste Naomh Cormac, Birr. They argued against the motion “Is aoibhinn beatha an pholaiteora in Éirinn” – Politicians have a great life in Ireland. Unfortunately, they had stiff competition and narrowly lost out on a place in the next round. A huge thank you to Cillian O’Brien, Dara Ryan, Ciarán O’Neill, Fionn Higgins and Shane Whelan for their dedication and commitment to the competition since September. The standard of Irish they displayed was phenomenal!
Maith sibh agus guímid gach rath orthu as seo amach!
Ms. O’Donovan, Ms. Fleming and Ms. Kelly.
