5th Year Berlin Trip (5th – 8th of March) – Photos and Memories

13 March 2026

Last week a group of 17 students and three teachers embarked on a four day trip to Berlin, Germany’s lively capital city. Our students had a fantastic time exploring key sites and landmarks of Berlin’s turbulent 20th century history, visiting some of its world class museums and experiencing its vibrant, avant-garde culture.

The group stayed in the centrally located Hostel “The Little Pigs” which proved to be very popular due to its unique atmosphere and its spacious lobby where everyone could eat, relax and play a game of billiard after each action packed, exciting and eventful day.

Day One began with an insightful visit to the Sachsenhausen Memorial & Museum located an hour north of Berlin. This was followed by a very interesting Guided Tour of Berlin which allowed the group to explore a variety of attractions such as the Berlin Wall, the Brandenburg Gate and Check Point Charlie – only to name a few.

On Day Two our group enjoyed some time in the Spy Museum which was followed by a visit to the Reichstag Building (seat of the German Parliament) with its striking glass dome that offered 360-degree views of the city. After some free time, a visit to the DDR Museum provided an insight into everyday life in the former East Germany.

On Day Three the students had great fun at the Computer Games Museum where they could experience hands-on the history of computer games up close. After some more exploring, this day ended with a visit to the Berlin Story Bunker – a must for our history lovers.

The group was thrilled to eat out in the evenings in a variety of restaurants. During the day quintessential streetfoods like Currywurst and Döner Kebab were sampled together with either a refreshing “Apfelschorle” or a “Spezi” (mixture of Coke and Fanta).

On the last day our students had a fabulous time at the Tropical Islands Waterpark – an enjoyable end to a wonderful trip. The group was blessed with blue skies and sunshine from the day they arrived until the day they left.

Thank you to Ms. Drewes, Ms. Lonergan and Mr. Murphy who travelled with and looked after the boys. However, the biggest Thank You goes to our 5th Year students who went on this journey to Berlin. Their positive attitude, kindness, comradery and sense of fun made this trip unforgettable.
